cumin porridge

2 cups

ingredients

  • white/brown rice - ½ cup

  • cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  • fenugreek seeds (methi dana) - ¼ tsp

  • water - 2 cups

  • turmeric powder - ½ tsp

  • grated coconut - 1 tbsp

  • onion - ½ pc

  • rock salt (pink Himalayan) - to taste

  • wood pressed groundnut oil - 1 tbsp

steps to do

  1. rinse the rice thoroughly and drain.

  2. in a pressure cooker, soak the rice with cumin and fenugreek seeds for 30 minutes. 

  3. after soaking, add the spices and cook for 3 whistles. 

  4. in a jar, grind coconut, onion, coconut and turmeric powder.

  5. in a separate pan, heat the wood pressed groundnut oil. add chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.

  6. once the porridge is cooked, add the sautéed onions and ground paste to the porridge. stir well to combine.

  7. season the porridge with rock salt according to your taste preferences.
