do you also feel a sudden surge of acid refluxes, skin dryness, in-digestion, fever, infections in the rainy season? if you do, then let us explain the impact of the monsoon on our bodies.
monsoon brings about vivid changes not only in nature but also in our bodies. it gives us relief from the summer heat but also reduces the digestive fire in our bodies, also known as ‘agni’ as per Ayurveda. temperatures dip but humidity increases which not only creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes, flies and other insects that contaminate our water sources but also leads to an imbalance of doshas or energies in our body. there is an aggravation of vata and pitta dosha during this season, which becomes the root cause of various diseases and conditions.
what changes during the rainy season?
vata dosha induces movement in our body. it has characteristics of air and space, is light, cool and dry in nature. during the rainy season there is an imbalance of vata in our bodies which causes skin dryness, gassiness, and constipation.
pitta dosha is responsible for metabolism and intelligence. it has characteristics of fire and drives our digestion. rainy season leads to an imbalance of pitta in our bodies which causes health concerns like indigestion, excess acidity, acne, fever and more.
how can you avoid falling sick?
our body always seeks an equilibrium between the internal and external environments. the nutrition and lifestyle needs of our bodies change and not addressing these needs could be the reason for your health problems.
some simple changes in our daily habits can have a significant impact on your health and can help you fight the above-mentioned illnesses a lot better.
consume light foods
consuming light foods like barley, rice and wheat are much lighter on our digestive system. they will help you fight the lethargy and help your digestive system which slows down during the rainy season.
ginger and rock salt before meals
consuming small pieces of ginger with a pinch of rock salt before every meal works as an excellent appetizer and contains antimicrobial properties that help in boosting the immune system.
eliminate heavy foods from your diet
reduce consumption of curd, meats and junk foods. replace curd with buttermilk with some herbs in it. curd and meat are very heavy and the rainy season can increase bad bacteria in them. it's best to avoid them in this season.
skip the afternoon nap
we know it's hard but sleeping during the day further slows down the metabolism rate. it increases kapha and pitta dosha in your body which ultimately slows down your digestion.
give your gut a break
fasting can be a helpful tool during the rainy season as it helps in improving digestive fire and immunity. to begin with, you can try a 1-day fast in the week where you consume lunch and then rest your digestive system. fasting is a good solution for giving a break to your gut and improving the digestive system’s efficiency.
each of these small habits can have a great impact on your health and can help you feel your best even in this gloomy weather.
